After a long long hiatus, I am finally back. I tested positive for Covid-19 in the middle of November, after which I was pretty breathless for two to three weeks. Then there were the holidays, and with everyone at home all the time, I really fell off the wagon with my blog posts. But I’m back now and ready to share again!

At four months, Dayna isn’t a newborn anymore. Her newborn reflexes have faded and she is developing her own little personality. I have noticed that she is more easily distracted as she observes everything going on in her environment. She has started to babble more, laugh (occasionally) and roll on her side too.

Puzzle Ball

The puzzle ball has been fascinating Dayna recently. It is still to large for her to grasp with her hands but we hang it above her as a mobile and she loves to kick it with her hands and feet and watch it swing like a pendulum.

Ring on Elastic

Dayna is grasping things a lot, and is almost always tightly clutching the hem of her clothes. We hung up the ring on elastic mobile and she almost immediately grasped the ring and pulled it towards herself. This is a really easy mobile to DIY. As the name suggests, all you need is a wooden ring and some elastic.

We added another extension that Dayna loves; we attached a jingle bell to the inside of the ring, so whenever she lets go of the ring, it bounces and jingles.

Images in Primary Colours

As her eyesight continues to improve, we are noticing that Dayna is fascinated by brightly coloured objects. She loves these Art for Baby: Colour board books, which are accordion books with art sorted by colour. She can just lie there and stare at them for several minutes without losing concentration.

Grasping Beads

Wooden grasping beads is a typical Montessori baby toy. It is just a string of wooden beads but is the perfect size for tiny hands to grasp. Dayna has also started to try to bring things to her mouth, and these beads offer her the perfect opportunity.

Bell Rattle

The Montessori bell rattle is basically a wooden stick with jingle bells attached on either side. The stick is the perfect width for tiny hands to grasp and the bells provide great sensory feedback in response to baby’s movement. This is definitely Dayna’s favourite rattle at the moment.

Hand Kite

This is a small wooden ring with a bell and some pastel coloured ribbons attached. Suspended from Dayna’s tripod, they are at the perfect height for her to grasp and bring to her mouth. She also loves it when the ribbons graze and tickle her face.
